K6 inks, R220 & F-type papers

K6 inks, R220 & F-type papers

2007-09-01 by chriskjezp

Hello,

I'm interested in trying out the K6 inks with my R220 printer. I know
they don't work well with glossy papers, but I'm wondering how they do
with the F-type papers like Crane Museo Silver Rag, Innova Smooth
Gloss F-Type and Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl. I looked through the QTR
profiles for K6 & 200 series and I didn't see these papers listed, so
I'm guessing it wouldn't work well.

I searched the message board and didn't see any answers to this.

Thanks,
Chris

The current K6 inks are for matte papers only. The F type papers print
like a glossy paper and use the PK inks. Currently there is no glossy
support for the K6/7 inks, however it is on the horizon. I don't know
the Epson printers well enough to say if the 220 will be supported, but
if it is a 6 ink printer, probably not. I think the glossy system will
require a 7 ink printer. I would check at the Piezography group, where
Jon Cone has been updating progress on this system.

They don't work well with glossy papers. The papers you mention are all
glossy papers.

Hello, Chris. The problem is the matte black (MK) of K6 inks on F-type papers--they need
photo black (PK). The MKs on photo paper will rub off quite easily. Not all of the F-type
papers put the PK fact out front in their marketing but if it claims d-max in the high 2's it is a
photo paper needing PK rather than MK. Peizography is working on an inkset that will allow
both paper types but it seems like it will be a while and it will only be for a Piezography
brand paper.
