Newbie Grayscale ICC Question

Newbie Grayscale ICC Question

2005-07-10 by edrudolpho

Roy, here's a quote from your read me.

"Print a stepwedge like the second one above, scan the step wedge and drag the
file of data readings on to QTR-Create-ICC... The created icc
file is used during printing to achieve a Perceptual Intent mapping from any
input embedded profile to the output. This scheme can be used with any type
of black and white printing such as Black-Only from the Epson driver or the
new Advanced B&W mode of the latest printers."

Does this mean that the profile is used for the Print Space? And if so, how do you deal
with the fact that you may be blending two curves?

The ICC profiles are used in the Preview window for the Print Space. This is
where you'd use the generic Gray Matte/Photo Paper profiles I had before or
you can customize an ICC profile with QTR-Create-ICC. This is where the
color management system controls any conversions embedded profiles.

The curves and blending that have always been in QTR are at a lower level
and only are entered on the QuadToneRIP print dialog page. Ideally you would
select all these driver options when making the ICC profile for above.

Roy, one more question. Would the document continue to be tagged with the QTR-
GrayLab profile, or would it be just as good to leave it as a Gray Gamma 2.2?
