R2400 for Black Only prints - any advice?

R2400 for Black Only prints - any advice?

2007-11-12 by matthewhouston61

I bought QTR when I first got an R2400 with my main purpose being to
make Black Only prints. My main expertise in photography is in
Platinum and Palladium printing and making digital negatives has
sharpened my computer skills but I am still not a great technician.
After a few months I can now get good Black Only prints by switching
off the toners from the closest profile I could find but I have not
managed to make my own curves for the papers I like best. Instead I
use curves in photoshop combined with intuition/trial and error/luck.
I use MIS PK ink and like MIS Hot Press paper and also Inkpress Fibre
Gloss sometimes. Does anyone have a curve made for these or similar
papers. I'm certain that QTR is the perfect way to make Black Only
prints but I think I am stuggling to just scratch the surface of its
potential. Any help, advice or tips would be much appreciated.
Matthew

Hi Matthew,

I'd recommend checking out the Links section of the qtr website.
There's info by Ron Reeder who has
done a lot with making digital negs for platinum printing. See:

Trouble loading/finding curves

2007-11-12 by bheller@aol.com

I have been running QTR on my IMac (Power PC G4) - Epson R1800 with no problems.? I downloaded the application to my Ibook, Intel core duo and have not been able to adjust the curves when I print.? I have loaded the curves that were contained in the download, both for the R1800 and the R1800-3mK.? I am able to pull up different papers when I try to blend the curves using the 3MK, but I can't find the same highlights, mid-tones and sepia curves that I have used on my IMac.? Both computers are running 10.4.10.

Thanks,

Brian

Thanks Roy....but I probably did not make myself clear. My mention
of platinum and negatives was by way of introduction. What I am
interested in here is making black only prints with the R2400. The
articles I have read are really based around other printers and their
software. I have not really found much advice on using QTR for black
only. I suppose it would be using a powerful program for a very
simple task but, that said, it is the perfect way to control black
only I would think. I was hopeing to find others who use the R2400
for black only printing and have the skills to make their own curves
for different papers. Sorry if I caused confusion here. Good wishes

Matthew

Sure, you can do black only if you want to.
