printing ink patches not in calibration mode

printing ink patches not in calibration mode

2008-01-12 by Howard Shaw

In order to diagnose some banding problems I'd like to print separate
patches of each ink channel. I'd like to do this using a particular qtr
curve rather than in calibration mode (or with epson driver). Is that
possible?

thanks
Howard

I had been wondering the same thing. For example, what if I want to
run a purge pattern on *only* one ink channel. The normal purge
patterns can't really do this, but I assume that QTR could.

The QTR target for all channels to base the partitioning on
isn't telling enough ?

It's easy enough to close channels and keep one open at 100%.

Well I'm seeing (vertical) banding on my 7600 in a particular low key
image but not in the ink separation target in calibration mode. The
image prints fine on another printer.

Howard,

You can create a very quick and simple curve for any ink, or
combination of inks. Open the Curve Creation interface, select a
single ink and use a Plot List. For your chosen ink, select Load
Curve, then click the curve box and the "Point List" tab. Enter points
of 0,0 and 100,100. This will create a straight line curve that will
print out the full tonal range from 0 to 100% ink. It won't be
linearized, and ink limits will be high, but it is a good way to create
a simple curve for any ink.

I have used this to print a 21 step grayscale and to determine ink
limits for just the black channel. I also have created these to help
blow out the lines of a specific color in my 4000 when it was clogged.

Well you could edit the suitable separation image file (7
channels) that it resembles a low key image. Say take the
tone range to 1/3 of the original with PS curves and save
that with the same name. Of course you kept the original
file in another map to reinstall it when the experiment is
done. The files are in the bin map of QTR's program files.
