Help - Frustrated - Invalid Linearize Curve - Not Constantly Increasing error

2008-01-26 by Bill Wetzel

Greetings,

I've been working on this for the better part of last night and today
and am not getting anyplace. I hope someone here has an insight. I have
checked the archives with no luck (or perhaps not the right question).

I'm having a look at QTR for the first time (read noobie). On my first
prints the midtones were way to dark. I didn't find curves for my exact
paper/ink combination and so I tried to make my own. All went well until
the Linearize step. As suggested in the tutorial I entered L values
measured with Photoshop from a scan of the 21 step wedge that I printed
using my non-linearized curve. Here is a paste of the L values from one
of my attempts copied directly from the Linearize tab.

    100.0 99.0 94.0 88.0 83.0 77.0 73.0 68.0
64.0 58.0 54.0 50.0 45.0 41.0 37.0 31.0 28.0
21.0 14.0 8.0 4.0

When I try to save the curve I get the error:

Invalid Linearize Curve - Not Constantly Increasing

It sure looks to me like those values are constantly increasing. I have
tried them in the above order, in reverse order. With and without the
decimal point followed by a zero, all with the same result.

What am I doing wrong?

One inconsistency that I noticed that looks like a bug in QTR - The
first time I try to "Show Curve" following the launch of QTR I get the
above nastygram but the graph IS displayed after I dismiss the nastygram
error box. The graph does/may (in one case it was obvious, in another
not so obvious) have a slope reversal and so is consistent with the
nastygram but not the data that I input. On subsequent attempts to "Show
Curve" I continue to get the nastygram but the graph IS NOT displayed
after I dismiss the error box.

Here is my environment:

Windows XP
AMD Athlon 64 X@ Dual Core 5200+ 2GB RAM
QTR 2.5.2.1
Epson 2200 with Epson inks
Ilford Galerie Smooth Perl paper

And here is my curve file. Note that the LINEARIZE line is monotonic.
