Curve process for Leopard and CS3

2008-02-25 by dmwket

I uploaded a PDF to the DOCs folder, along with a PSD for K-LK ink separation calibration to
the TOOLS folder.
The PDF describes, hopefully in sufficient detail to be helpful, the process I have developed
to build curve files for use with QTR and my Epson 2200 using UC inks.
I suspect the process would be valid for most printer and ink combinations.

This is my feeble attempt to repay the help I have received from so many in this group as I
have been gaining some useful knowledge about B&W printing and the capabilities of QTR.

Regards,
David

Thanks
I did change my color settings, but the same issue persists. When I
try to choose a curve in the print dialogue, it tells me none with no
choice of curves in the drop down area. If I choose to 'Print" a
dialogue appears saying I should use a curve. Do you have any other
suggestions as to why no curves appear in the drop downs?
Thanks again,
Joel

Joel,
It sounds, from your description, like the curve profiles have not be installed for your QTR
print driver.

The following presumes you are using a MAC with at least Tiger. (The exact folder
structure I am describing is from Leopard.)

In the QTR folder there is a profiles folder that has folders for all the printers supported by
QTR. These are also separated by the inks that are installed.

For example my printer and ink combination is 2100-2200-UC. That is the Epson 2200
with Epson UltraChrome inks.

Inside that folder are install applets for the 2100 and the 2200. This is the folder where
you have to place the curve file created using the process I described in the document I
uploaded.

Clicking on the install program will build a series of files and place them in a folder used
by the QTR driver. This folder is accessible via the CurveDesign folder in the QTR folder.
In this folder is an alias to the CurveDropBox folder. In it is a folder Quad2200 (or
whatever printer you are using). In this folder there should be a .quad file corresponding
to each curve file you "installed". These are the the files used by the QTR driver.

I hope this helps.

David

David,
Thank you!!
It's a bit confusing because there is another install file in that
folder.
Thanks again,
Joel

Joel,
I agree about it being confusing.
To make is simpler for myself I made a second folder, copied the install script for my printer
and that is the folder where I put the curve files I want to install.

I also made an alias and put it on the desktop along with the others so everything is handy
when I am building a curve for a new paper.
