qidf and icc - Ilford Gallerie Gold Fibre Silk

I'm trying to understand the difference between the standard icc printer profile and Quadtone RIP's qidf profiles. Can one be converted to the other? I don't have a densitometer, etc. - just have monitor profiling tools, and I'm wondering if ANYONE has created a QTR profile for Ilford Gallerie GFS paper on Epson R2400 - or a set for different color tones (as I really like the paper except I find it too warm for my taste). I already like it with the canned profile from Ilford, using the Epson driver, but I suspect it would be even better printing from QTR with a good profile (even if it's not a profile tied to MY R2400)-- unless someone tells me they really don't see an improvement with QTR, R2400, Gallerie GFS from the Epson driver and Ilford paper profile. Are there custom profilers out there who create qidf's instead of icc's, or deliver in both formats? I know Cathy of Cathy's profiles knew nothing about qidf files. Many thanks!
