BO and QTR in Leopard?

BO and QTR in Leopard?

2008-08-09 by Sarah Renkes

Hi all...(I also posted this in the B&W group)

I recently ungraded from Panther to Leopard and can't print at all with my Epson 2200. Not
only does QTR not work (I have the latest...I choose paper and settings but nothing prints
even though the window shows the file went to the printer...it just sits there.), I'm also
getting "paper out or not loaded correctly" messages.

I have tried removing/adding the printer and QTR, and changing the Gimp driver to
Gutenprint and back....nothing works.

Also, and most disturbing....the drop-down menus seem to have changed and I can't find a
Black Only option...which is serious.

Anyone have a clue? I have spent the last few hours beating my head against this, scouring
the net, and am coming up empty.

thanks,
Sarah

I don't know what's wrong, but something is...

I'm using a 2200 and an R1800 with Leopard on an Intel Mac. QTR works
with both printers, and the Epson driver itself allows the choice of
color or black (only) ink.

The menus are different, though. Print Settings and Color Management
are now hidden in the drop down menu in the middle of the screen that
comes up after you click the Print button. [The choice showing is
"Layout". Pull down that menu to get to the important stuff. If
you've chosen the Quad2200 printer, Quadtone RIP will be one of the
choices.]

When you reinstalled QTR, did you remember to "install" the 2200
again?  ---->

        QuadToneRip/Profiles/2100-2200-UC/Install2200.command [if
you're using Ultra Chrome inks or equivalent]

And you're using the USB port, not Firewire, right? QTR doesn't work
with Firewire.

If everything is really messed up, reset the printing system:

System Preferences / Print & Fax and then Ctrl-click on any printer
listed. Resetting the printing system will be one of the choices.
Then, just for good measure, power off the computer and the printer,
wait a few seconds and start everything up again. Reinstall the
printer, and run the QTR install2200.command again. It *should* work.

For what it's worth, I'm having much better luck with the 2200 now
with an Intel Mac and OS X 10.5.4 than I used to have with my iMac
(PPC). With the iMac it was a constant struggle to get it to print,
and to keep it printing once I had it working properly. The Epson
driver seemed awfully flakey and no other printer (Epson or otherwise)
gave me any trouble.

Myron

I'm using QTR with the R1800 and the Epson driver for MIS 3-D inks.
Everything works as expected

2008-08-10 by Sarah Renkes

Thanks so much for your suggestions, Myron...I had previously tried them all and nothing
worked. I was able to get QTR to print a few times but the paper sizes were skewed and
the prints had intense vericle banding. The Epson driver doesn't print at all, but gives me
either the "paper out or not loaded correctly" message or a "generic class waiting for
device" and then just hangs there.

I'm on a PPC dual G5 and never had any issues with Panther, but don't want to go back to
it. It's all incredibly frustrating. Eventually I'll get an r1800, but that is not in my economic
stars right now and so this is pretty unfortunate.

~sigh~ just when I had a good printing system down.

Also you need to download the latest QTR version 2.6.1 for Leopard the
previous versions do not work with Leopard. You need to re-install the
printer too -- i.e. Delete the printer and run Install2200.

Re: BO and QTR in Leopard?

2008-08-11 by Sarah Renkes

Thanks Roy...I do have the latest version and did delete the printer first.

Prints have lots of verticle banding, where they didn't have any in Panther. I have tried
cleaning/head alignment to no avail.

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: BO and QTR in Leopard?

Hi Sarah,

There's no real difference with the printing code so I think it has to be
an issue with the printer. Have you checked the nozzles?
And of course check the print settings to make sure they are the same.
