Using Espon Claria Black and Eboni-6 in an Epson 1400

Using Espon Claria Black and Eboni-6 in an Epson 1400

2008-10-03 by tcoen

Hi,

I have a feasability question regarding the use of QuadtoneRIP with
multiple ink types in a single Epson 1400 printer.

I have been using the Epson Claria Black dye ink with QuadtoneRIP to
produce black only prints on glossy and luster papers. I am quite
happy with the results.

Recently I purchased a set of empty, refillable cartridges from MIS
along with bottles of Eboni-6 black inks.

To avoid giving up the black-only dye prints, I would like to use
only the 5 darkest Eboni inks in the other positions. Of couse, I
would never be mixing the inks. I will make custom curves to use only
the Eboni inks or only the Claria Black.

Does anyone know if this will work? Will I lose much by not having
the lightest Eboni gray? Or is there any problem with changing the
cartridge positions of the Eboni blacks?

Thank you,
Tyler Coen

i don't think i'd want to put dye & pigment in the same printer even
if you don't print them at the same time. sounds like a recipe for
clogs. it's going to be dumping dye & pigments together into the
cleaning pads.

i use epson black dye along with lyson grey dyes in my 1270. not
that's a lovely combination. super smooth tonal range and 2.0 dmax on
hahnemuhle photo rag. i haven't seen anything quite like it.
