checked a little further into r1900 issue

2008-11-30 by brinsonrob

hi everyone, got a little more input on the issues of the lack of curves in the dropdown
windows. I have looked in Library/printers/qtr/quadtone/ and there are no profiles in the
QuadR1900 folder though every other folder has profiles. I use QTR on my 4000 and
9800 and had some problems similar but do not quite remember how to fix it. Thanks for
any help, trying to set up my son in art school with the Qtr with his printer while I am
visiting for the holidays. Cheers

Hello, I think what you are going to find is that the R800, R1800 and R1900 with their
native inksets make very poor b&w printers, (primarily because of their use of only one
black in an age of 3K printers. Somewhere within QTR is a Read Me to that effect.

On the other hand the 800,1800,1900 series is an excellent platform with its' 1.5 picolitre
printhead for dedicated b&w inksets and I think the basic form of the profiles is included
for people wanting to develop their own b&w inksets.

Paul Roark here:

http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/

details an approach for the 800/1800 that prints b&w and color on matte paper only.
There may have been further work done on the 1900 as well.

I think Roy Harrington did some very basic profiles for the 800/1800 but not for the 1900
yet.

I bought an R800 for its absolutely flawless glossy and semi-gloss
(Moab Colorado Satine) ... for a letter-sized color portrait
project...it's perfect in color but no good for QTR or
purely-Photoshop B&W (I've got hopes for Qimage and for further
Lightroom explorations).

Does the MIS stick-to-glossy problem that Paul R mentions apply to
fiber-type semi-gloss? How about baryta types?

Moab Colorado Satine is my ideal paper ... a fiber paper with
handsome semi-gloss surface...

Yes, the R800/1800 3-MK ink is matte only. It rubs off the FB papers
(unless sprayed with a fixative).

The UT14 in a 1400 does a great job on all of them.
