Opinion on this curve?

2009-07-06 by bskumar_in

I had downloaded QTR a long time ago, but was put off by the "grainy" and occasional blotchy prints I got with my Epson PM-4000PX (2200 in the US). I guess it was my lack of understanding the process, as well as the lack of a unified step-by-step guide for beginners that caused this. I bought a copy of ImagePrint v6 at a very good price, and was pretty happy with the prints. I'm now thinking of buying a larger printer, and IP's upgrade prices aren't funny.

So I sat down to a marathon session of digging on this and other forums. I finally figured out that I needed to add some Light Cyan and Light Magenta. After a great deal of testing, I came up with this curve, whch seems to give me results similar in appearance to IP. I have uploaded this curve 2200UC-EEnhMatteNeutral.qidf to the Files archive in the Epson 2200 section.

If possible, can someone test it and see if it's any good? I used this curve at 85, and blended the stock UC-EEnhMatte-warm curve at 15. Printing resolution was at 2880, and speed uni-directional.

Cheers,
Kumar

From your post I conclude your are using the OEM UltraChrome inks and Epson Enhanced Matte on your 2200. Right? Why not using the shipped curves (2200-UC print model)? At least they should give you a good starting point.

The curves included with QTR didn't work well for me. The prints were grainy, and blotchy in the dark areas. As I said in my earlier post, it was probably my inexperience at that time. If you have a 2200, would you mind trying it out?

Kumar

Unfortunately, my 2100 died a year ago :-(.
