Reading QTR gray ramps with a spectroscan?

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway! I'm trying to build some ABW profiles using the gray ramps supplied with QTR. I'm missing the cable necessary to use my spectroscan as a spectrolino, so I'm trying to figure out a way to get the charts to read properly. I thought I had succeeded a couple of times, but when I try to linearize or build the profile it says my LAB values are not in order and it stops. Of course the easy answer is to just buy the bloody cable, but I will exhaust all options before giving Xrite $75 for a mini-din! Any suggestions? Thanks!
