UT-14 IG Smooth Glossy Profile Part Made Help Needed Please To Complete

2009-12-22 by badger346

I'm a newbie on this site and would very much appreciate a little bit of help/advice.

I'm using the UT-14 MIS inkset in an Epson 1400 and have over the last couple of weeks read many posts, guidance and other documentation on using QTR.

I've made QTR profiles for Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl (separate profiles for the C/LC and M/LM channels - But only with lowish Dmax - Cyan/Cool 1.9 & Magenta/Warm 1.7)

I'm currently making profiles for IG Smooth Glossy. I've made the Cyan/L Cyan profile resulting in a Dmax of 2.06 with a Default Ink Limit of 45%. But I'm having problems with the Magenta/Warm profile.

I'm finding that to get the 100% step density reading lower than the 95% step reading I have to reduce the Default Ink Limit to 33% resulting in a density reading of the 100% step at 1.85. I feel that I should be able to get a higher density than this.

Using a higher Default Ink Limit results in the 95% density being higher than the 100%. From what I've read this may be due to over inking. I've tried increasing the Grey Curve shadow values but this does not seem to affect the 100% ink patch. Looking closely at the 100% patch it appears to be matt (as if another ink is printing on top - I've got K listed as 'Not Used' and no Black Boost) where the other patches are slightly gloss. I've noticed that if I rub the 100% patch with a cloth the density increases dramatically.

One odd thing that happens when creating the Warm profile is that although there are only six ink cartridges. The readings set for the Light Magenta are somehow duplicated in the seventh cartridge channel and I cannot access this to change it to 'Not Used'.

I hope the above is clear and that someone can give me some advice in this area.

Thanks

Jon
