Yellow ink out of register on R1900?

Yellow ink out of register on R1900?

2010-06-01 by gmikol

OK...so I'm really new to digital negatives and QTR (like only started a couple of weeks ago).

I created a curve with PK and Y on my R1900 to try and get more UV density for digital negatives than just PK alone. But in looking at the negative, the yellow ink appears to be out of register with the black in both the top-to-bottom dimension (paper feed direction) and to a lesser extent left-to-right. This is on Pictorico, with a PK limit of about 50 and a Y limit of about 30.

Here's a 1600 DPI scan:

I ran a head alignment, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

So I have a few qustions:

1) I bought this printer used about 2 weeks ago, did I just get a bum unit? Could some sort of impact or shock or other neglect have caused this?

2) Has anyone else seen something like this on an R1900 (or I suppose an R1800 or R800...they all share the same basic design, no?).

3) Am I being too picky? I'm concerned that the mis-alignment could cause some blurriness, since the PK and Y have approx. the same UV density in this negative, so when they're offset, there might be halos?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks--

Greg
