Vertical Banding on 1290s using UT2

Vertical Banding on 1290s using UT2

2005-09-06 by Jamie Creed

I'm trying to create some curves for Epson Glossy and Semigloss for
my 1290s, but can't get rid of a vertical banding pattern which is
showing up on the initial 100% Ink Pattern Page (in calibration
mode.) I've not seen this when printing to Matte paper, and have
tried numerous head alignment operations. Also tried different
settings in QTR; speed, resolution and dithers.

Anybody out there got any ideas or solutions?

I've searched this forum to no avail,

regards, Jamie Creed

Jamie

When you state "vertical banding" I presume you mean banding in the
direction of paper motion rather than print head motion. If that's the case,
and it's in the high density areas, you could consider the possibility of
pizza wheel tracks. I had a similar problem on my 2200 that only seemed to
occur when I used QTR. I think it had to do with the amount of Ink I was
able to get QTR to put on the paper in the dense areas of the image.

I got rid of the tracks by lifting the Pizza wheels off the paper. Here's a
reference for the 2200. Perhaps there's something similar you can do with
the 1290.

Tom,

I guess my attempted description could be taken either way. The
banding I'm seeing is actually in the same direction as the print
head motion. If I look at 1 of the small squares on the Ink pattern
page (produced in calibration mode) I can see approx; 7 dark lines
where the ink has laid down heavier, or about 7 light lines where
the ink hasn't been laid down heavy enough, guess it depends on
opinion.

I wish it was the pizza wheels, thanks for your input Tom,

Jamie
