7600 startup question

7600 startup question

2010-11-08 by bobkeefer@ymail.com

Hi all,

I'm a newcomer here.

Just acquired a low-mileage 7600 that I want to convert to Eboni BW (been using a 1400 and like the process).

I have two computers: Windows7 and Linux (Ubuntu.

The problem is, I can't seem to get either one to drive the printer, using either QTR on the Windows machine or GIMP on the Linux.

In both cases the computer says "print processing" or similar message but the printer never activates.

Windows7, of course, has no Epson driver for 7600. Does QTR require the Epson driver? I was under the impression not, but of course could be wrong....

Anyone have experience with the Gutenprint driver (installed on the Linux box) for the 7600?

The printer worked fine at the seller's office, and I expect this is some simple beginner issue that I simply don't see.... The printer control panel says "Ready" but nothing happens.

It's connected by USB.

Any help appreciated.

Bob Keefer

Solved the problem myself. Deep in the printer's control panel menu is a setting to open the USB port. It was set to ethernet, as used by the seller.

Prints fine now.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
