QuadTone RIP option missing when printing on 3880 with CS5

QuadTone RIP option missing when printing on 3880 with CS5

2011-12-29 by alxbk

Hello everyone.
I am very new to this so, please bear with me in case I'm asking a stupid question.
I'm trying to calibrate my first curve for silver and in the process of printing the step tablet.
Basically my problem seems to be that I can't find a way to force PS CS5 to print using QuadTone RIP driver instead of native Epson 3880 driver.
I have been trying to follow numerous instructions on the printing procedures but some things don't line up.
First of all CS5 now doesn't have a dedicated Page Setup option. It would seem like it should be accessible trough the Print interface via Print Setting (is that right?).
Once I choose Print Settings, it takes me directly to Epson 3880 properties interface. That's it. No option to specify QuadTone RIP anywhere.

What I have been doing to circumvent this issue is saving the image file as a .tiff and then printing directly from QuadTone RIP, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing (other then being inconvenient).
So, If anyone can shed some light on it, I'd be very grateful.

System information: Windows 7 64bit, Photoshop CS5, QuadTone RIP 2.7.2

You've been following the Mac instructions ... they don't work for PCs!

When you installed QTR, you should also have automatically installed a
second application called qtrgui - you do all printing through it,
including calibration. I guess thats what you mean by printing directly
from QuadTone RIP - and thats the only way to do it. Qtrgui also has all
the calibration stuff built into it (in the tools menus) - though how it
matches with prining with silver I don't know ... I don't know how much
modified the process is to cater for that.

Mike, Thank you.
That makes sense now.
