Hi,
I have both, 700 & 100M, and the latter one doesn't sound as fat.
Maybe the different components used in later designs...
But don't get me wrong, the 100M is a really good modular, the only
true modular produced by Roland.
The 100M's got many ideas developped for the 700 w/ a few upgrades.
You can plug your kbd 180/181 into the kbd DIN connector of a 700 and
it will work.
Same connectors, same wiring pattern.
So you can connect your 191J "expander" out into a 700's kbd input and
they will share the same CV/Gate/Trig bus.
I actually use a 191J base (very bad condition w/out top & sides)
to control my 700 w/ my MC-4.
No need to power it up and this is a good mini jack-> DIN converter.
Cheers
Olivier

Hi
I was intrigued about the sound of the 700 and had
a looked at the schemos
It seems that most modules were copied into the later System 100m,
minus
a couple of features.
The 702 VCO'sare identical to the 100m VCO's
[except the 700 has a bonus sine shaper ouput]
The 703E,F,G filter [LP] is very similar to the 100m 121 [LP] filter,
except
the
100m uses the famous BA622 OTAs [used in TB303] instead of the CA3080's
in
the 700.
The VCA 704 is very similar to the 100m VCA 130, just updated in the
100m
with the BA22 instead
of the CA3080, plus an FET transistor buffer.
Both have Lin and Exp modes.
