-----Original Message----- From: Mark R. Strijbos Subject: [AH] Disabling Jupiter-4 Write-Protect ? Dear Loggers, Last week i have bought a Roland Jupiter-4 (at last! my first Jupiter) and it's one hell of an analog dream machine with an incredible rich and deep tone. But i received this synth in "kit form" and when i re- assembled it, i accidentally used a long screw in the wrong place. This damaged the signal flow on the Patch Selector PCB thereby disabling the (left-most) Write Protect override button. So now i can't write to the (expanded) patch memory banks anymore! Of course the obvious solution would be to "bridge" the offending signal path on the PCB, but i can't reach the trouble spot because the PCB and switch array are mounted to the front panel with a tiny screw situated on the inside of the row of switches - it's really baffling me how they ever assembled this BTW - so i can't pry it loose. However, there are also three blank wires running to the Write Protect section on the top (component) side of the PCB. Now my guess is that these wires carry the signal to & fro the Write Protect button and could probably be bridged to permanenty disable this part of the circuit and _enable_ memory writes again. Is there anybody out there with some "hands on" JP-4 experience? Any help (hints, tips, diagrams, schematics, spare parts) would be greatly appreciated Mark Strijbos [JP-4 JU-60 MS-20 MS-404 D-10 TR-606 MC-303 OCTAPAD-II]
