All about the Roland Jupiter-series

Hello,while moving my studio (and my beloved jupiter8) to a new 
location a discovered a switch next to my DCB-port (small DCB) of my 
Jupiter..What's the use for it?? The manual doesn't mention it...

I also have another question : I have no memory in my Jup8...The guys 
at Roland Belgium have replaced the battery and it worked for half a 
year but then...memory gone again...They say it's not repairable as 
the memory-block is damaged and drains too much power from the 
battery....Can anyone help? I have to load my patches by tape each 
time,very time consuming...
