I saw your question already got answered, but please lemme add that this
function is switched parallel with the [HOLD] function for pedal at the back
of the JP. The only difference is that to release the function, you simply
let go of the pedal whereas the hold-button needs to be pressed again to
release its function.

What does the hold button do on the Jupiter 8? Is that like "latch" on an
arpeggiator? 

just out of curiousity, does anyone have a pdf file of the Jupiter 8 manual?
I've never seen it and I figure it would make for an interesting read.
