I discovered something similar to this a couple of years ago. I realized that
portamento is really nothing more than a lowpass filter, so I though... hmmm...
what will happen if I use a four pole filter? One of my filters, based around
the SSM2044 VCF IC worked really well. And as you mentioned, if the resonance
was turned up, the portamento just went insane!!!
