I believe a random source to be a noise board and a SSG board hard patched
and mounted behind a common panel - as such, the two as separate modules
should be able to the same things.
Module selection is often dependent on the SOUNDS you want to make, i.e. tonal / bass / lead vs. Buchla type blurps and blips which is where I come from
I agree that the Random Source is more but IMHO the extra versatility/density is worth the cost. (I have 2 SSG + Dual Rand) In the long run w/ Serge as others have mentioned, it pays to carefully choose what modules you place on each panel (well distributed) in case you want to sell (easier to sell). For any non tonal stuff a Ring Mod is really great though running audio rate CV into any of the Audio modifiers (X-Fade / Wave Mult) ets can get "somewhat" similar results. Lastly, I found the X-Fade to be a good little "dynamic" mixer. Less inputs but has the ability to morph between sounds.
