serge cases/modules

2006-01-01 by beschaving@gmail.com

hello everyone,

i'm considering putting a portable serge system together (well,
ordering one).

i wanted to ask what people consider a good size system to carry
around. i would need to be able to take the system as carry-on
baggage on flights. i guess a two or three panel system is what most
people would consider an instrument that's comfortable for a musician
to travel with, but i'd really like to squeeze as much functionality
in the system as possible. i suppose my ideal at the moment would be
something like the 6-panel suitcase system on this page (if i can
afford six panels...)
http://home.att.net/~djaux/SMMS3.htm

has anyone here tried this, mounting 6 panels in a single suitcase?

another question, and i know this sort of goes against one of the
principles of serge design, but have there ever been any systems that
had separate modules? as a doepfer a-100 user i find the idea of
ordering a panel which is then laid-out like that for eternity a
little worrying. i have two doepfer a-100 cases in my studio, and i'm
always moving modules around. for live shows i usually only bring one
of the cases, but i just fill them up with the modules i happen to be
using around that time.

thanks!

alex
