Re: Serge Wiard owners

2007-03-02 by Bill Sequeira

Agree entirely with Mike's comments. (hi Mike!).

I would add that as instruments (as opposed to isolated modules) both
systems are philosophically quite different.

The 300 series modules are designed to be "voices" on their own -
most of them are capable of making some kind of interesting sound
without relying on additional modules.

Also 300 series modules are complex in the sense that internally they
are composed of simple modules integrated in interesting ways to
create sophisticated "units" that give interesting results, just like
the Woggle Bug example cited by Mike.

Grant adopted the philosophy that either one of his modules could be
used to augment another system and provide a different voice for it.

I adopted the theory of building instruments rather than collecting
modules, so I went down the path of putting together a complete
instrument with 300 series modules. Think when used this way the 300
series are very unique and give you somewhat of a Buchla-esque flavor
that Serge does not have when used straight through.

The above is not exactly what you asked but figured it might be
useful in feeling your way through the system differences, as some of
them stem from philosophy rather than functionality.

Regards,

Bill
