Since the resurgence of another old icon, the Mighty Buchla, I have
wondered about the existence of mixers/scalers that could deal with
the higher voltage ranges that its modules work with, such as the
281e.
Buchla offers the 210e and the 256e, however, these are digital
mixing/attenuating devices that do not offer the luxury of fine, non-
stepped voltage scaling. I have tried to mix voltages from the 281e
into stock Doepfer mixers, and the output pegs out at +5 V. Also, for
reasons I can't explain, the Doaff cannot invert these voltages.
So the question begs: Can any of the Serge attenuators/mixers/scalers
deal with these higher voltages? I have owned many Serge panels in
the past (which unfortunately I ended up selling. Damn!!!!) and I
think they would only take up to +/-5 V.
If this is not the case (which I'm afraid of), then could/would our
good friends at STS (my main man Rex and his minions) make a, M-
module with these capabilities? I must point out to you that the size
of the front plates is perfectly compatible with the Buchla format,
not to mention the banana kinship between the two brands. This would
definitely make financial $en$e, I think, since the Buchla format is
becoming quite popular among synth geeks and, in fact, there are
other 3rd-party companies making some of their own modules Bookla-
compatible (f. example: Cynthia's Zeroscillator). Also, the "e"
version (or "Neo-Buchla") sorely lacks true analog scalers/inverters.
I hope this stirs interest in producers and consumers alike. I will
be happy to be your beta-tester, Rex!
