Errr... I thought they were the same thing, circuit wise.
The difference being, in the NTO the waveshaper is always being fed by the
sawtooth, whereas with the TWS you can send any waveform in.
The TWS was used with early Serge oscillators to provide sine & rectangular
waveshapes (which I guess were not available) from the sawtooth (which was).
Sound-wise, to my ears it sounds similar to, though not the same as, VCM #3.
