Frequency Shifter plus Variable Slope Filter

2012-01-05 by Bill Felton

Here's one good use of the Frequency Shifter module, especially in conjunction with the Variable Slope Filter.

The basic notion is to split out a range of frequencies from an input signal, shift them, and then mix them back in with
the remaining range of the input signal. Carefully adjusted, you can move the high harmonics down into the range of the
low harmonics passed by the filter (or vice versa). Levels, cutoffs, and slopes (where available) all have potentially
dramatic effect on the resulting sound.
With a huge THANK YOU to Allen Strange and his book for this technique!

Take the output of the low (or hi) pass VSF into the FS.
Take the 'opposite' output of the VSF into a mixer.
Take the output of the FS into the same mixer.
Adjust shift amount, mix amount, and filter slope and cutoff to your heart's content ;-)

cheers,
Bill
