Upside: no weird artwork.
Now you guys are spreading trash about Wiard to
another list. Shame on you.
I don't know Chris Whitten from anywhere so I can't
comment on him, except for him being perhaps a Brit
with a not so light hearted dig against a certain
American businessmen for which I do take offense.
However, I do know something about Kirk Digorgio.
Kirk has his own studio and record label and could be
called an independent businessman. I actually like
his music quite a bit, and have shelled out outrageous
prices ($26.00 + each for 2 As One CD's) to buy his
music. However now I feel that I am stuck in a
position of possibly not buying anything that he
produces anymore, since he chooses to keep slandering
my friend Grant's line of synthesizers. Grant too is
an independent businessman and I would have to say
that his profit margin isn't that huge. What Grant
does is a labor of love as I imagine is the same for
Kirk. I would contend that Grant is the most original
synth designer of the last 10 years (at least) with
modules like the Wogglebug, the Borg Filter and
Miniwave which pick up on abandoned ideas of former
modules and move them into a higher stage of
development. So Kirk, why disparage Grant on 2 lists
just because his panels artwork remind you too much of
some local flavour where you live which you find
objectional? I don't get it. I have read you wax
eloquant about the sound and feel of the Rhodes Piano
and the reasons you love Jazz, but your dismissal of
the Wiard seems superficial and shallow at best. I
thought Music was about the sound, not about whether
it's color matches your furniture or whether Celtic
heritage fit into the same world as you. From reading
your writing and listening to your music I thought you
were beyond this kind of petty behaviour and were a
person that I could look up to as an example of
success without compromise. Well I don't know now...
The world of independent analog synthesizer makers is
very small. I see no point in disparaging one design
for something as small as the front panel graphics.
Sound is everything, looks are nothing.
None of my synths match.
