Pulse sequencer?

Pulse sequencer?

2003-03-03 by John Papiewski

I was talking to Rex the other day about some modules I'd like to see.
Serge used to have a pulse sequencer module a long time ago, a sequencer
that just gave you a pulse per stage for rythmns. Buchla had something
like this too.

Rex said in order to do this today he'd want to create something
elaborate using a microprocessor, and that would take a lot of
development. But I'm wondering if that's necessary.

How about just a sort of OR array you could plug TKB stages into? You
can't combine TKB stage pulse outputs together just by multing them, you
need buffering. The buffering would be a lot easier to develop than a
whole standalone uP setup, and it could be used to combine pulses from
DSG, PDIV, TKB, or whatever you had.

Any interest in this? I know Cynthia has a pulse sequencer in the
Modcan format but I thought there was room for something else,
especially if it was simple & flexible.

Anybody?

If Rex had no problems with it, it would be a VERY simple matter to release
the old pulse sequencer as PCB. There is essentially nothing to it. In fact
the design is so common-place I doubt Serge could even hold a copyright to it.

As for Cynthia's design, look here for the details:

From what I gathered talking on the phone with Rex, he didn't seem to
want to rerelease the old design - I'm guessing here - as the old design
is not up to the quality or sophistication of the rest of the current stuff.

Some of the posts on this thread have got me thinking though ... if it's
that simple to create an OR buss it'd be a worthwhile DIY proj.

That's not what I meant. What I meant was that if Rex had no
objections, a PCB could be produced by a member of this group for
other members of this group to use to assemble their own (or get
assembled by friends with know-how). Rex would not need to be involved
in the production at all.

Extremely easy. I've done it to the old Serge sequencer design myself,
and as such can short all outputs together with no problems, as well
as using a little shorting pin matrix to connect it to the programmers
