Want to buy: Rack ears

Want to buy: Rack ears

Hey, group!! Any of you guys have an extra pair of rack ears lying
around? They are, of course, for a Serge panel. If so, please email
me at cuari7@...

thanxx........

You probably could purchase them from Rex.

Yeah, but I hear there's a 9 month waiting list on those rack ears. I guess Rex is concerned
about the metal heating up when he bends it into that 90 degree shape. So he does it a few
degrees per week.

It may take a while, though you're bound to get the highest quality rack ears if you go
straight to the source.

(Damn, I forgot to add the caveat that the reader should untwist his/her panties several
twists before reading the above...) :)

Always trying to offend...

Maybe the question is how many of you would like to get more rack ears?

I for one could use three or four pairs right now. We could get a large one
time order if there is a sizable interest and we could pay cash upfront. We
could also recruit Rex's help if there is a large order.

Bill

The main reason I'm asking the forum is because I'm getting a new
panel from Rex, but he says it'll be awhile before he can send me
the rack ears, as his supplier cannot produce them any sooner.
If we can find out of another company that culd supply them SOON,
I'll sign up to buy some.

The rack ears are just 1 inch right angle extruded aluminum with some holes
punched in them. Seems like it shouldn't be that hard to make these as a
DIY project.

Biggest problem is to get them to look aesthetically right.

The pre-STS panels had exactly such ears, aluminum bent at 90 degree angle,
and they look horrible when compared to the new STS rack ears.

Maybe the problem is finding a material for the ears that won't look like
the corner shop bent it in a hurry for $1.

Bill

Bill,

Extruded right angle aluminum is not bent, it is formed and "pulled" or
extruded into the shape needed in the lengthwise direction. It is the same
stuff that Rex is using today. The hardest part would be making the slotted
holes, but a couple drill holes and a file should take care of that.

FYI early STS circa 1994 used the cheap corner bent aluminum.

Thanks for the additional info - a better and more specific description
helps. And as I stated before, earlier models pre-STS also used the cheap
mechanism.

I found a place that sells 1 inch corner aluminum, .125 inch thick. They'll
even cut it to the length you specify, so all you have to do is drill the
holes.
