Can someone point me to the EGRES website? I know it was posted here a while back though the
Yahoogroup page has outdated links to it.

Thanks,

Stephen

Isn't it odd, or a shame maybe, that the Serge site
hasn't been updated in over a year?? I realize there
haven't been any new modules added or anything earth
shaking like that, but even some more pictures or
comments from users or maybe we could start a "patch
page".... anything. I go to all these other sites and
they are being updated almost every quarter even if
it's just hot air> LOL
kind regards

I don't have as much time to update the EGRES site as I'd like, but on
the other hand, I don't have anything worth putting on the site either...

Over a year ago I was promised an electronic version of the Serge
Catalogue, complete with module descriptions and prices, and the folks
at Server were actually pretty excited about getting it online - but I
never received it.

If somebody provides me with worthy content, I'll get it up....

I can provide higher resolution scans of the shop panels. This includes
most of the current reformatted modules. Ditto on other module graphics -
the black and white ones on the modular configurator are from my 1982
catalogue.

Send em!

Might take me two or three days to get them up, but do so, please!

Thanks!

It would be very nice to have all types of panels on egres (current, 80's and 70's).

I think it would be nice to have the official description of modules, not only articles about
them. Well, that will be the electronic version of the current catalogue actually... wich
would be great to have online and/or as PDF.

All the best and thank you very much for the Egres pages anyway!

A suggestion: Devoting a section of Egres to sounds, i.e have Serge
owners contribute small samples of music played on their beasts. It
just doesn't seem right to have a website devoted to a musical
instrument without sound samples.
Also, we (well, at least I!) want more pics of Ed Egan's monster.
And what about Kevin Fortune's massive system?
More gear porn, guys!!! ;-P

The only catalog I have ever seen from Rex is reprints of the old 1980s
Serge catalogs. There is already a PDF on the Yahoo site for the 1982
catalog and I uploaded another few pages on the Frequency Shifter and
Quadrature Oscillator, which I assume appeared in 1982 or later.

Re: EGRES pages

2004-04-12 by John Loffink

As I recall John P mentioned one concession to Rex was to NOT have Serge
sound files at the EGRES web site. I agree with cuari's assessment that
this doesn't seem right.

From the web site:

Many synthesizer sites offer digitized sound clips. This one doesn't. At
first it seems like a pretty damn good idea, but frankly I never heard a
sound clip that made me want to run out and get a system. Also, Rex frowns
on the idea. He was gracious enough to put his stamp of approval on this
site, so leaving sound clips to others is not too much to ask.

Re: EGRES pages/ideas

Kevins' massive system?? I think he has only 12 or 15
left. Sounds on the page would be nice but it think it
would be more interesting/educational or whatever to
have a place where we can post interesting patches.
I'm sure we all have our own way of arriving at
certain sounds and i think it would be a hoot to see
how others arrive at the same or different, as the
case may be, sounds... in other words, a sort of
"concepts" page. Used for things like..."hey
everyone...try this...!" ya know?.... or, "this is how
to clibrate the PS"....that sort of thing
just my humble opinion

I agree. It would also be beneficial for those sounds to have a patch
description, and/or a picture of the front panel as it is patched. In
my opinion the most amazing thing about the Serge is it's "patch
density", augmented by the inherent stackability of the banana plug.
This could be highlighted by pics showing the complexity per square
inch of a Serge patch.

But I also understand Rex's position in terms of the web not doing
Serge justice. Has anyone asked him recently of he still feels this
way? If so, than I would suggest an area at serge-fans which is a link
to off-site sound samples and CDs from users. I know there is already
an are like that at the site but perhaps a new area could be created
specifically for web audio links.

> Also, we (well, at least I!) want more pics of Ed Egan's monster.

I'd be happy to supply this site with some if you'd like. I just in the
process of finally receiving a Quad panner module that I ordered ages
ago (it's been shipped). Once I have it integrated into my system I'll
take new pics.

Re: EGRES pages - sounds etc

2004-04-13 by John P

I agree that there's several changes overdue at EGRES.
There are already several links to musicians (incl me) where you can buy
a CD and hear all about it.
And there will be an upcoming Serge Musician's CD where you can hear
Serge played by ten people (though not all at once).

Over the past eight years several people have contributed photos and
module comments to EGRES. The invitation's still open, all help
appreciated.

A long time ago Nonesuch records had the "Nonesuch Guide to Electronic
Music" - Beaver & Krause put together some sounds from their Moog and
some effects units with a terrific booklet. Doepfer has (or had??) a
demo CD for their A100 line. I thought of doing a CD for the Serge
also but I'd need help ... I don't have anywhere near all the modules.
That might need to be a group effort.

I know I prob'ly shouldn't speak for Rex but everybody else has likely
heard the same thing from him, that digital sound clips just don't sound
that good.

I know! TIME FOR ANOTHER POLL!

Let me see if i can make some headway in the area of
getting Rexs' blessing for sound clips and things of
that nature.

Re: Houston..we have lift off

2004-04-13 by john duval

-We now have Rexs' blessing to move forward on patch
posting and sound clips. What he is trying to avoid is
stuff like.."this is the sound of OSC being modified
with a triangle wave"..and so forth..you know...simple
stuff. I don't think we will have that problem here.
If we need to post basic sound bites maybe that would
best ve left for the Yahoo groups Serge page.
Kind regards
john duval
i'm going to be off for awhile i think. changing to
Comcast broadband today and it looks as though i'm
going to be switching from Mac to PC for my internet
here in the studio while leaving the music production
stuff on the Mac. wish me luck. i know nothing about
this sort of thing.
