Serge Lust (Part II)

Serge Lust (Part II)

2004-04-17 by Ioannis Kazlaris

Hi list,
thanx to all the people who answered to my email with suggestions.
I considered having two NTOs over PCOs for extra modulations. If I was to replace a NTO with 2 PCOs I would loose a slot and that would probably be taken off from a filter. Thing is I want two VQCFs to make a 4-pole.
Other than that, I could get some extra functionality by using a PCO and a comparator to make pulse waves but what other uses do I have beyond this? PCOs can serve as LFOs but so do the DSGs.
I might replace the TWS with a Wave Multiplier. I will consider the Random source, as well.
I dropped the ASRs because I couldn't think of any uses. When I asked Rex to supply me with some diagrams on specific module applications he said that there should be plenty of info here and there... You know.. just wanted something to get me started. It is easy to say "go ahead and experiment" but I can't really experiment with almost 8000 euros. It's a bit difficult to fork out that amount of money in one go and it is this balance (price/modules) that keeps me from ordering. Or should I say lack of balance? (Grin)
I don't have much use for a Ring Modulator. At least not for now. Maybe on a 4th panel.
BTW, is the shielding done inside in the Serge? Do you think it could be possible to ask for balanced outputs? Is there any benefit from this?
Gee, I didn't know that the Doepfer modular is not of high quality and that the company is trying to fulfill promises about OS and things... About a month ago I tested a Hartmann Neuron and it was the exact opposite. Very high quality (a few niggles here and there), very high structural functionality, but mediocre patches. One might easily be fooled by surfing at Doepfer's site. Nice staff all around, diagrams, mp3s, blah blah. No wonder why many of you sold your Doepfers...
Have a nice day.
Yannis

Nice to see things are picking up on the list. Many
thanks for the patch that was put up.
this is what the list should be.
The layouts being discussed here are all good... you
can't go wrong and it's just a foregone conclusion
that even after months of dilberation your still going
to come away with the " gee, i wish i had gotten that
" The mods on the DTG are a must if you don't want to
waste space on a DSG. I myself couldn't live without a
RS. My needs are a little different... i like to swirl
things around alot so having a bunch of QUOs and XFADs
were a priority for me as were lots of mixers. The one
area i fell short in was ADSRs and my next panel will
rectify that situation. These things should not be
overlooked and because each stage can accept VC, they
make great modifiers for filters and just about
anything else. And speaking of filters, i would take a
VCF2 over the VCFS any day. Also, the TWS can turn any
PCO into a thumping(but still smooth)bass machine by
patching the lower section into the mid section and
then feeding the output back into the bottom. Have a
good time!!!
kind regards
john duval
