ASR application/patch

All this Random vs. Noise and a thread on SDIY made me make one more attempt
at finding a use for the ASRs that I would actually use. I actually finally
found an application for them I like! This works best with two or *more*
ASRs...

Use your favorite method to generate a series of random gates (pulse from
random module, something out of a comparator etc). We want random timing of
pulses, not random amplitudes.

Feed these into the sample input of the ASR with your favorite clock
clicking along advancing the ASR. If you have a couple of ASRs chain them to
make a longer register.

Now take the individual outputs into your favorite CV mixer thingee. If you
don't have a handy 6 mix from Cyndustries chain a couple of the smaller
Serge variety together. Take the mixed output to the v/oct on a couple of
osc. Use the mixer knobs to tune each of the "bits" coming out of the ASR.
Use a couple of the "bits" to kick off envelopes, clocks, hold states what
have you. The bits in the mixer act as a sort of binary tuning for each
output. You get a random sequence but it contains a lot of pattern
regularity due to the sliding "bits". Massage the tuning to your desires or
force it with a quantizer. Great fun! Any other good uses of the ASR people
would like to share?

Yep! I think the SDIY thread referenced was in regard to my 4006 shift
register dalliance, which is an evil blend of the gated comparator and the
quantized random voltage function of the Buchla 266 SOU.
