Frequency Shifter for External Processing

Frequency Shifter for External Processing

2001-05-06 by barry_michael@enron.net

Picked up a thread from someone who had worked with Rex to process a
cd through the FS - Just got through working on a little thing with
an old percussionist friend. We used a Audio Teknica large diaphragm
tube mic (4060) into a Focusrite Class A preamp. Ran this into a high
quality direct box, and got a level into the serge. (We tried it with
the Serge external preamp first. It is super clean, and we definitely
could have used it, but it has Sooo much gain in such a short throw,
that it's almost dangerous). The Focusrite, being less adventurous,
was a little more forgiving. The source was a pair of Tibetan
Ting-Sha, which are those flat little bells about two inches in
Circ., and an incredible tone to start with. The sound we were
looking for was mostly bell with some overtones, but after patching
up the Serge, we got alot more than we bargained for. We actually
didn't limit ourselves to the FS. we used the ring modulator, the
frequency shifter, wave multiplier, waveshaper, wilson analog delay,
but no filters and no modulation. Just manipulation of the harmonics
of the bells. We went to a deepspace tribal cavern, and we were In
there. at the end we added just a hint of Lexicon PCM91 -
Unbelievable, Totally Awesome Immersion in another realm. You can buy
it with money, but money won't patch it up for you. And you cannot
put a price on that sound. I mean I Never heard Anything even Close
to it. As good as sex And drugs and longer lasting than either.
