bill sequeira? spamming back at ya?

2004-10-05 by Blake Wilson

do other listmembers receive a polite note from "bill sequira" asking
you to click on a link to "verify" you're not spamming him after
you've posted to the list? i note that it went directly to me, and
not list, after my recent post just a few minutes ago....

strange....i'm not clicking anything, bill!

talk about spam! you post to a list, and you get an automated message
from a listmember that serves no purpose other than his personal
satisfaction...i'd call that spam, wouldn't you?

blake (preparing for another bill s. message...)

Maybe, but it is an automated system - he won't see ever any posts from
people who don't "verify" themselves, so complaining in a post will do
no good. Although I guess he will see you quoted here, since I did
click the link. Yeah, it's a bit annoying, but then so is getting a ton
of spam every day.

I don't really mind it. But if others do why not try and ask him to sign up for the digest instead? but i guess then he won't get anything i doubt yahoo would email back and say "this isn't spam" hehe:-)

Eek, speaking of spam, in your last post two of my email addresses
appear, ready for
spiders to grab from the SMOG web pages. OK, so including an address in
the text was my
fault (but on the website, it is filtered out via a link on my original
posts, so I thought it was safe). But the address I posted from should
not appear at all as raw text - how did that happen???

Re: bill sequeira? spamming back at ya?

Folks,

My apologies for the inconvenience - I am using SPAM Interceptor and
the filter generates the messages you have been receiving - if the
filter believes you might be a furry, then sends the message and caches
your original message until there is a response. If not, it is sent
to trash. Had to put in place as I was getting killed by almost 1000
spam messages a day - and no, I am not inflating the number.

I went back and checked the filter - for some reason the TRUSTED list
was corrupted and part of it lost, the SergeModular address was one of
the missing. I have re-entered it and you should not see the messages
again - please let me know if you do.

As per the rest of the thread and the comments, well, what can I say:

Chris - Sorry your BUM hurts so bad.
Bob - Thanks for the explanation, basically what was going on.
Ryan - The digest is not a bad option considering the latest... ;-)
John - I still can read your messages, not such luck. :-(

Again, my apologies and hope for your understanding
<insert-sound-of-flogging-in-the-public-plaza>.

Back to patchin' and pluggin' along.

Regards,

Bill

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
