System for sale

System for sale

2004-12-10 by kirkdegiorgio

Dear list

I have decided to sell my Serge system. As you may know I have had problems with
2 of
these panels which I have detailed below. The panels were exposed to pollutants
caused
by me not properly covering up them up during some house renovations. You live
and
learn as they say…

My intention is to be totally upfront regarding the situation with these 2
panels so any
potential buyer knows EXACTLY what they are buying into. I do not want anybody
to feel
`ripped off' or unhappy as once they are sold they are SOLD – no returns or
refunds based
upon any further faults that I might have missed or that may develop - so I will
describe to
the best of my knowledge the current state of the functionality of these 2
panels.

Panel 1:

CVI / NTO / PCO / NOI / MIX2 / ADSR / UAP

This is the panel Kevin Fortune worked on a few months back. The PCO was
wavering
badly but is now stable. The DADSR was displaying timing errors – thx to some
swapping
of components by Kevin these have been reduced but I still come across them in
some
patches (on some short snappy sounds the length of the envelope is not always
consistent
– it opens up more than it should at random intermittent times).

Otherwise all seems OK at present.

Panel 2:

PRNV / RING / VCM / DSG / VCFQ / EQ / PHA / FRS / ADP

This is a jewel of a processing panel - but has problems. The NOTCH output of
the VCFQ
seems to just output the signal IN with no filtering whatsoever. The Freq of the
VCFQ
wavers randomly and intermittently (listening to the Low output with no CV
modulation
the filter clearly opens and closes – a real bummer). Whilst trying out Chris'
recent NCOM
patches I discovered both halves of the DSG are also unstable. I didn't notice
this when
using them as LFO's but putting them into audio range its clear they are not
happy. Finally
the Freq Shifter is also unstable – you only have to take a clean signal from
the Internal
Sine wave and listen to it wavering all over the place.

Everything else seems OK but the recent discovery of the faulty DSG highlights
the
difficulty in pinning down all the problems. (if you're serious about buying and
you're in
the UK then feel free to come and give it a thorough workout beforehand).

I have been told that due to the corrosive nature of the pollutants (dust and
ash from a
fireplace removal + sanded walls and floorboards, etc) that these panels could
go on to
develop further faults over time. Therefore these panels might only be suitable
for
somebody who enjoys troubleshooting or who has a technician close-by to attend
to these
problems if/as and when they occur. Being in the UK this is a problem for me as
it is
impractical to ship these panels to the US each and every time a fault develops
(especially
as some of the faults have been intermittent).

Of course the upside to this situation is the price. I will sell Panel 1 for
$1200 (approx
$2750 new) and Panel 2 for $1500 (approx $4400 new). $2500 for both. Buyer pays
shipping from UK. Payment by bank transfer, IMO or paypal (pls add 5% for the
latter) in £ currency using current exchange rate.

I also have a 3rd panel for sale which was not present during the housework and
is 100%
fully functional.

Panel 3:

QTKB / NTO / PCO / DTG / VCF2 / PRC / SSG / NCOM

Price: $2300 (current price new $3650)

All 3 panels are cosmetically as new (the pollutant elements are so fine there
is no clearly
visible `gunk' either internally or externally). Panels 1&2 are Oakland, CA 1998
build, Panel
3 is Hartland, Wisc. All come with ROX chassis.

I have a PS4 for $150 – which I will only sell once all the panels have sold.

I will sell all 3 panels + PS for $4500. (new over $10,000)

So I hope somebody will benefit from my negligence… the prices may be attractive
but pls
be fully aware that the 2 Oakland panels may be a troublesome purchase. If
you're aware
of that from the outset and you're prepared for possible future problems and are
OK with
that then it could be a rare opportunity to get a couple of fully featured
custom panels at a
ridiculous price. Remember - Panel 3 is basically as new and the price is a good
saving.

Please feel free to PM me with any queries…

Regards

Kirk

www.serge-fans.com seeking donations...

2004-12-10 by Les Mizzell

Good Evening,

As many or you may know, or not ... under the direction of John P. I
have been doing the design and coding plus paying for the hosting for
www.serge-fans.com (and also when it was at the scampers.com/EGRES
address as well. I've not asked the community for anything since I took
these duties unto myself, nor did I expect to.

However during the last two months, between myself and my dog, we've run
up a small fortune in medical bills ($4,000 for the dog!!!). While our
respective doctors have told us that we're both going to live a while
longer, I wasn't prepared to put out quite as much financially as I've
had to.

The yearly renewal for both the hosting and domain name for serge-fans
is coming up shortly. It's not much - approx $120.00 hosting for the
year, plus the domain renewal, which will an additional $20 or so for
another year.

With that in mind, if anybody of you are willing to make any donations
to helping me keep serge-fans alive, it would be greatly appreciated.
Any funds received will go directly to pay the bills for the site, and
I'll happily add a "Thanks to the following for their support:..." note
on the site as well.

Of course, regardless of all this, I'll keep the current arrangement
with the site. It isn't going anywhere and I won't let the hosting or
domain registration lapse. It's just that a slight assist would be a
useful thing at the moment.

You can Paypal me at lesmizz@... and put "Serge Fans" as the
payment subject.

Thanks so much for your understanding in this matter.

Re: System for sale

Kirk,

SO sorry to hear about this, although I understand your decision
given the struggle the system has been for you lately. I presume
you'll keep the TKB to complement your Modcan?

I wish I could be your buyer (though I'm no electronics wizard I am
the kind of person to snag the discount and pay Rex to fix/salvage)
but there's simply too much overlap with my existing system, and the
modules I could use more of don't reside all on one panel. In fact,
I've been considering selling one panel myself to fund the purchase
of a replacement panel with less duplication and a few modules that
I don't have now. If I didn't have our first child on the way this
month I might even consider yours strictly as an investment.

Were you able to realize the N-COMP patches with the good panel? If
so, I would be interested in your variations.

Just wanted to drop you a line of encouragement as I think your
prices are reasonable enough that someone won't be able to pass
these panels up. Panel #3 should sell pretty quickly I'd think.

Best wishes,

Chris

Sorry, that last message was intended for Kirk alone.

no worries about the post going public Chris... and thx for the kind support. I do hope
this will lead to an opportunity for somebody with more time and troubleshooting
expertise to get their hands on a very nice (yet problematic) system.

I tried your NCOM patch (my NCOM is on the 100% fully working panel) and it really did
thicken up the NTO saw in a nice way... shame that the DSG turned out to be so unstable!

I'd been thinking about selling the system for a while but couldn't do it.. alas the DSG
experience pushed me over the edge...

(btw - I sold the TKB quite a while ago as I rarely used it...and i do still have a nice Modcan
setup based around a Mini-Wave + Diode filter, so I'm not completely modular-less...)

regards

KD

Thanks to the Community!

I would like to extend my thanks to the Serge Community in their support
of serge-fans.com! We have actually surpassed my expectations at this point!

I will be renewing the domain name for another 2/3 years and will also
pay the hosting ahead for the next 18 months as well!

Thanks all!

Did you still need some cash for the site? This somehow slipped through my
box and I just found it. Let me know! Thanks!
