VCF2

Didn't mean to send this to the list but when i try posting to you it keeps getting bounced back.

LOL dude, your just NOW getting into this filter?? sorry...(just kidding) it took me even longer to appreciate this filter. One of the keyes is mixing. You have to have enough mixing ability to make this thing take off. Ask Rex. I'll bet i was into this five years or more before i discovered the sonic goodness of the VCF2. What opened it up was when i received a "mixing" panel. MIX2(3) XFAD(6) QUO(2) which sits on top of a VCA panel QVM(2) ADSR(2) QUO(2)
As you stated, a single OSC into a VCF2 ... take all the outputs and and mix them, xfad them, warp them, wave them to your hearts content. As Rex says, "it's a beautiful thing" hahahah
I just received what just may be my last panel for along time.... unless i sell a few. The system has gone beyond critical mass and is actualy much less fun to play with now than when it was much smaller. The new panel contains, from left to right: PRC / ADSR(2) / TWS(2) / VCF2(3)
It sits in what i call the "drone" cluster which has the above mentioned panels plus two panels that are mostly VCOs and NTOs and a panel that is all filters and wave mults.
I haven't got the thing mounted yet 'caus i'm going to reconfigure the whole system and haven't had time to do the layout. I've further complicated the set up with the addition of a couple frames of MOTM ..... bananaized of course and some Cynthia modules in a Modcan frame which takes up waaaay to much space. Can't believe Bruces' mounting scheme.... but so be it.
There was a long discussion quite along time ago about the "speed" of the chips in the ADSR modules. Last year i received a panel with four ADSRs. two with "regular" chips and two with "faster" chips.... i don't know ... i forgot what the difference was supposed to be, but after working with these things for awhile, i just can't tell the diff. Must be my application. But to be truethful, i don't remember what the complaint about the speed of the chips was supposed to be about. I think someone had a little audio test or patch worked up to check for response time, but i wasn't paying that much attention. Anyway, i have both kinds in a single panel and if this is still of some interest to anyone, perhaps they can send me a patch that highlights the desired audio quality and i can check it out for them. Then again, it may be all too subjective and not worth the effort. Just thought i'd put that out there.
kind regards
john duval

Holy Mother of Christ!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else out there own one of these babies..?
This has got to be the most underrated filter (and best-kept secret, I
guess) on the STS catalogue!
All it takes is one measly oscillator fed into it, then get the lopass
and variable bw outs into a mixer (invert the vbw out signal for best
effects), and you get an incredible resonant peak. YEAOW!!!!!! An
effect somewhat like the spaced-out dual MM Voyager filter, but more
vocalish.

Guys! Go and get one of these with your next panel!

Rex, You da Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep on Patchin'!
