john should definitely ebay his panels. mine are all gone, to good
homes, i might add.

and with that note i'm signing off this list, which i started four or
five years ago. thanks to all the friends over the years from the list
(you know who you are), with particular thanks to john p. for taking
over when i started to wane a while back. john picked up not only
moderatorship of the list, but took over the Serge CD project which i
conceived but he birthed. it was a real thrill to see that item finally
see the light of day.

over the years i bought 7 panels from STS, some shop, some custom. at
its height the system looked like this (its the vertical setup "in the
cozy corner" at the bottom of the page):

damn, it was a nice system! there are also still lots of photos on the
yahoo photos pages.

a lot of folks have asked "why" and he's the simple answer: i've found
instruments and musics that call to me much stronger that electronics
ever did (and boy did electronics reel me in for a while). i'm learning
to play two indian instruments: tabla and sarod, and taking lessons on
each from respected teachers. i've found that my musical heart beats
most resonant with acoustic instruments (much like the first instruments
i played: piano and acoustic guitar) and the human voice. i haven't
given up the electronics: i still have some synths and i'm programming
reaktor like mad lately (which satisfies the "patch n see what happens"
mentality) but the cost/value of the serge gear, and the time it
requires, just didn't justify its retention. also, i've found that i
don't really work well by myself, and that i like having a group around
me making music, which is what i'm doing with the indian music.

its been a lot of fun, and i hope that my enthusiasm for the Serge and
my efforts to promulgate the instrument allowed others to enjoy and
explore its beauty, its terror, and its rightful place as the apex
predator modular analog synth!
