sample request

2001-06-07 by John

Hello all. Since people are starting to upload samples of serge
modules in action, I have a request. Could someone please upload
some samples of the Wave Multiplier and Triple Waveshaper with just
raw VCO's? I am interested in hearing what these things can do on
their own without any type of filtering. Maybe even upload some
samples of drumloops, guitar or something run thru the WM and TW to
hear what it can do to other audio sources. If anyone is willing to
do this I would really appreciate it.

thanks
John

Hi John

I just had time to upload 3 files for you and others to check out.

They all feature a simple otherwise unprocessed drumloop going thru each
section of the Wave Multiplier module.

The top section (with toggle set to HI) produces a nice distortion - as it
correctly describes in the serge catalog its similar to overdriving a valve
stage.

The middle section is radical - the effect gets pretty wild even with the
amount set to 9 o'clock - the wav file captures between 12 and 3 o'clock.

The bottom section sounds great IMO on drums... kinds of chops them up and
distorts them too... weird (almost sounds like the perc from Trans Europe
Express at one point even though its a live drummer!)

Hope this satisfies part of your curiosity!

More to come if SMOGers want it and as time permits....

(All files are 16bit mono wav's - drumloop straight out of ProTools into
Serge PRNV Pre-Amp - no attenuation, just gets from 1/4 jack to banana easy
- and out of VCM into UAP output straight back to ProTools).

oh my goodness.... Well that made my day. man i can't wait until I
have enough money to spring for my first panel from serge. i now
know for a fact there will be two Wave Multipliers in it. Thanks for
uploading those files!!! Keep 'em coming when you get time. I would
love to hear some dry guitar run thru the Multipliers three stages :)

Thanks again
John (who is now dreaming of all the distorted sounds he can make
when he gets his first panel...)

Haven't had a chance to check out Opart's files yet.
Two opinions of my own though. I find (IMO!!!) that the least successful use
of the Wavemultiplier is audio processing. Things get quite nastily
distorted very quickly.
It is an incredible module though when used with waveforms and voltage
control. The top section also makes a funky VCA adding animation to an
otherwise linear sequence.
I bought a pair of VCM's in 1997 on somebody else's advice and have yet to
use both in one patch.
Having said that, I'm a big fan of Opart and I bet his sample files sound
great.

I think thats the reason I am really diggin this thing to be
honest :) Not to mention the Hellfire Metasonix which I have also
heard and am in love with. What can I say... I love distortion.

I am really anal when it comes to stereo imaging. Thus if I had a
stereo drum loop etc, I want to preserve the left/right image. I
don't like the idea of sending a mono send off to get processed if
it's a stereo file. Its just a pet peeve I have.

Yep. waiting to see if he offers us more funky-distorted samples :)

Yeah,
I think I worded my contribution badly. What I should have said is:
IMO the wavemultiplier is even better when used in a synthesizer patch
context.

Agree with that as well. The Fenix has two multimodes which I used in stereo
mode a lot to process drums on my loop CD.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
