Is this really a waveshaper?

Is this really a waveshaper?

2008-09-24 by Jeff Davis

Hello All,

I posted a few pics of a serge waveshaper on my flickr account.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/30833181@N06/2885661618/in/photostream/

I bought this unit on eBay a year or so ago and have never been able
to use since there is no power supply.
It was listed as a Serge Waveshaper Filter with a homebrew oscillator
section. Can anyone on the lst tell if this is actually the case or
do I have a pile of garbage in a metal box. Also while we're at it
does anyone have any suggestions for power supply's? There is a weird
square plug on the back of the box.

Thanks for your time

Looks more like a Cub Scout Wolf Badge project.
this is a joke right? LOL. . . hope you didn't pay more than a Krispy Creme for it.

Hmm, well, the fact that it says EML VCF on it concerns me.

Quite the engineering project.

Looks like the one circuit board says EML, with a date of 6-77, so that
might be a VCF section from an old EML synth. The other board is
obviously some PAIA VCO. The scribble on the front panel seems to
indicate two VCO sections and a VCF.

I'm guessing there ain't much Serge in that pile of parts.

Sorry. I didn't see the other phots.
I think it's safe to say that there is absolutely nothing Serge in or on or anywhere on this module.
I stand by my earlier statement. The is a cub scout Wolf badge project done by either a kid, or by someone with as little technical chops as myself.
And that's called "serious lack of technical chops"
Hook it up to car battery and see if it screams before it dies.
just kidding : )

The left side is a dual oscillator, but can't really make what the
right side is.

Serge's STS-era Triple Waveshaper module is configured differently (3
knobs), plus I don't know of any Serge module with 3 switches (maybe
the switches are used for internal routing of the dual osc's?).

The Wave Multiplier is similar in configuration to the Waveshaper, so
strike that one too.

Wonder if this is a filter in disguise? A Variable Q VCF could be a
match.

Didn't see this pic - agree that it may have nothing to do with Serge.

Re: Is this really a waveshaper?

2008-09-24 by Jeff Davis

Thanks everyone for your help,

I assumed it was not a serge waveshaper. I think it may be out of a EML Electrocomp 200
They had a waveshpaer section. I guess I have a lot more digging to do before I sell it or have it serviced

Thanks again,

JD

The jacks labeled 'L' 'B' 'H' are probably 'Lowpass', 'Bandpass', 'Hipass'.
Below that is a knob labeled 'Q' and under that is 'Fre'. The bottom
knob 'In' is probably an input level control.

Sure sounds like a filter to me.

I guess I'm the only one that likes the panel art!
