Testing... hello, hello...

Testing... hello, hello...

2001-06-30 by jamos@technotoys.com

Just a quick first message to let everyone know I'm here.

I'm Jim Johnson; I have a single Serge panel hooked in to a Fenix and
a variety of other stuff; I hardly have time to make music but I love
this stuff and will probably spend far more time on this list than I
should. Some of you probably know me from AH and Synth DIY...

If I could get one single thing from this list.. if there are any
list members in the Eugene, OR area, I'd love to meet you. This is a
hotbed of folk music, people look at me funny when I mention synths,
and I'd like to get some relief.

Carry on -

Jim,
Welcome aboard. I don't know anybody in Eugene, but I
go to Seattle and Vancouver B.C. a lot. Got some
friends in Humbolt,Co.CA.(Big Sur), so I get close to
Eugene once in a while. Nice town. Don't tell anybody,
but I have been known to play acoustic guitar and
upright bass. Rex knows, and sold me a Serge anyway.
Maitri,
BarryM

Re: Request for disk space?

2001-06-30 by Barry Michael

This post is mainly for the moderator, but responses
are welcome. a Fellow SMOG member recently requested
some audio files demonstrating some of the uses of the
DASR and the WAD modules. I have finally got these put
together with a patch diagram and an acompanying Word
.doc detailing the patch. These two files are
relatively small. My problem is the audio files. There
are 3, and in order to keep them at the highest
quality for list members, they are mono at 24bit
resolution and 44.1khz sample rate. They can be
listened to in whatever editor you use and should
sound as if they were generated locally. They are 1
min. each in duration, and are 7.764Mb each. Therein
lies my problem. I have tried to Zip these files, but
with winzip at maximum compression, they only come
down to 7.446Mb. Our disk space on SMOG will not hold
these even in its' entirety. I can whittle them down
to 30 sec. each and that will halve the size. this may
be the best solution, although some of the effects are
evolving over time. I have recently posted some other
files, and you can certainly delete these, if everyone
has had their fill of them. You can particularly lose
the photos of my system. Maybe there are still some
members who are interested in getting the previous
patch. If not, you can delete that too. Please let me
know what course to take as I would like tooffer this
material, but want to make the situation clear to
everybody so as not to offend. I think there is only
about 1Mb out there right now available.
Thanks,
BarryM

But I Do get to Portland once in a while, and I may
take you up on that offer. Rex has mentioned your name
a couple of times in our conversations. Always nicely.
Regards,
BarryM

Hi John;

Yes, we've corresponded before.. and I've received your kind invitation to
drop in some time - but the problem is that I never get to Portland! Or if
I do, I'm in some kind of a hurry (went up there for a surgical
consultation about 3 month ago...)

Still stunned that there seem to be no electronic musicians in Eugene other
than DJs - anyways, that's why I join groups like this.

Jim
