Re: [Simmons Drums] Using a newer module for Simmons SDS9

2005-02-09 by david pinnington

back in the day i used a sds 9 to trigger in no particular order and all at once on some occasions
simmons sde synth
simmons mt9 expander
akai s1000 sampler
another akai drum sampler that i can't recall it's name but it was a pig to set up something like a m1000
midiverb
i was never a big fan of the simmons sound per se but with the sds 9 you had access to midi in a way that few machines then or now had
true it's a little long winded to get what you needed and maybe 20 patches were not enough for some but for day to day work i could get any sound i was really looking for in the 90's due to not making in as a rock star and pr4essures of work i packing in giggging and basically played at home making strange and big sounds till it all got stolen one night and was never seen again

i bought another sds 9 last year along with a dynacord rythmn stik which i never had the first time round with a view to doing some sillythings more in a percussion than drumming sense

for me it's a great foundation to build soundscapes on and access other gear with out going into the simmons tmi and mtm's which were really hard wotk to get your head around then
go for it

Subject: [Simmons Drums] Using a newer module for Simmons SDS9

HELLO ALL! I have the Simmons SDS 9 kit, and would like to expand on
its capabilities and/or sound. -1- Can I use another brain, like a
new one from Roland ? or ?? Also the SDS9 uses just the toms, snare
and base for triggering theinputs, is there a way to integrate using
cymbal pads instead of using real ones? [accoustic]? Thanks in
advance, as Ive just started to do some research, after having
breaking out the SDS 9s from storage for awhile, along while.
