Thanks. I have a few EPROMs coming, via eBay, but won't be able to compare until I receive them, because I don't have any others of any sort on hand. To give an idea of the sound I'm hearing, it's a little like when you bump a guitar amp that has a spring reverb; sort of a crashing sound. It actually sounds kind of cool through an effects processor. I'm not quite set up for sampling and posting the sound just yet. Anyway, I'll have to see if I can find some other non-Simmons eproms to play around with!
