I own or have owned quite a few drum synths. However, the SDS-400 is not among them. But in a race between SDS-8 and TS-305 (and this is like cursing in church) I'd go for the TS-305 any day! I sold mine mostly because of size. There are good stuff under the grey metal. It has more raw power and also more "natural" sounds possible. The SDS-8 is more "bonkish-sounding" and you often end up with those terrible disco-toms with it. The rimshot of the TS-305 is still a favourite... Do _not, however, mistake the 305 for the 306, which is horrible in most aspects except the handclap.
