Matt, I personally used some sds8 pads with an alesis D4 which is 
basically waht the dm5 is.  Here is waht my experince yielded.  The 
pads i was using had been in storage since the late 80's hardly used 
using them with the d4 produced these results.  The pads required a 
high sensitivity level to get moving.  And then so they didn;t 
respond well.  Problem was the old transducers (triggers) in teh pads 
were deteriorated.  the problem was solved by picking up some new 
transducers at radio shack, now being used wiht a dm5 they kick major 
ass.  if you ca solder the reapir takes about an hour.  you can also 
buy the pintec dot triggers and gluem them in in pace of the xisting 
transducer and splice the output wire.
