  Hi all
Is it possible to paint the shell of a simmons pad ? Has anyone
done it ? Can anyone tell me what type of paint to use ? Do the
pad heads separate from the shell easily ? Reason for asking, is
that I have acqured a set of pads which need some tlc, they are
badly scratched. I was thinking of separating the head from the
shell (god knows hoe without breaking it), sanding down the shell,
undercoating and then getting them re-sprayed professionally. Any
  thoughts or ideas welcome.

  Cheers, Drew

Remember that the pads were painted on the _inside_ of the originally clear
plastic. So if you re-paint them they will never stay as nice in the finish
as originally intended.

Why paint them? Different colours in the set or do you own an ugly set?

Hi Jesper & Dave, thanks for the info.
The reason I want to paint them is that they are badly scratched.
Also, they are not painted on the inside, they are moulded out of
black plastic.

I still haven't figured out how to separate the shell from the
head...any ideas (SDS1000 Pads).

Cheers,,,Drew

OK; mine aren't but that may have changed...

I took my SDS-1s apart for reparation and they were stapled (!) to the
wooded hitting surface just under the rubber pad rim. Is your pads built
like this too?

Hi Jesper

I ahven't got a clue how mine are put together ! I did get an email
from superwolle70 telling me how to take the pads apart, but I would
love to see a schematic for the pad contruction of the SDS 1000 pads.

Anyway, will let you know how I get on.

to split the pads rear shell........
basically stick finger(s) into the hole where the mounting tube fit and push hard or very hard on the shell
it shopuld pop away as it it held to the playing surface moulds via plastic tangs
not done this for ages but memory tells me some seprarte easy and some need a bit of force

when painting if you do it yourself get hold of a book that that shows you how to do fibre glass car body repairs
basically you'll end up sanding with wet and dry plus perhaps soem filler primers before going to spray and laquer
