Chips, guts, channel boards, power supply & case for sale!

Chips, guts, channel boards, power supply & case for sale!

2005-10-15 by Rodney

Hello all!

I just finally got (after about a month) an SDS7 I got off
ebay...well, needless to say I GOT RIPPED OFF!!! I bought it as is,
so I am basically screwed...BUT:

Despite the fact that it was beat to hell, & rusted (People that
treat, not only Simmons Drum stuff, but ANY MUSICAL EQUIPMENT, LIKE
THIS, SHOULD BE SHOT OR IMPRISONED!), AND it has NO VOICE CHIPS
WHATSOEVER, it DOES seem to power up, and it has 5 channels in it:
BASS, SNARE, and 3 TOMS...all of the IC chips are in it, and ONLY THE
SOUND CHIPS ARE MISSING! (THANK GOD!)

The back of the unit has been mis-used, but looks like all the Inputs
& outputs would function...I have spent the last day taking it apart,
SHAKING ALL THE LOOSE DEBRIS OUT OF IT (luckily no chips or
electronics broke off, just twist-ties & misc. garbage someone put in
it...plastic & whatnots)

I have noticed that people need spare parts for SDSV(5), and probably
need spare parts for SDS7 or 9's...its got all the switches on it
(except the BIG INCREMENT selector knob at the bottom is broke off, so
it'd be hard to even change sounds or program it EVEN if i got this
thing up & running with sound chips...)

This thing is useless now, thanks to someone's neglect, and screwed me
on the deal...I won't even mention the Synsonic pads that were
SHATTERED (YES, SHATTERED, NO SHELLS EVEN LEFT!), but I did get 2 XLR
Simmons SDS7 hex pads with it, as well as 2 1/4" bass/kick pads with
it as well...

SO, in conclusion, I will be selling this in PIECEMEAL; that is, I
will be selling it off, piece by piece...so LOOK FOR MY AUCTIONS ON
EBAY FOR THE CHANNELS, & THE CASE WITH POWER SUPPLY/FACE PLATE (with
push buttons, and ALL the chips you need to replace old ones in other
units...)...my seller ID IS: CAJUNPAINTBALLERS

Hope this helps...contact me & I will provide you with ALL the
specific data pertaining to the unit &/or ANY COMPONENTS...I have it
right now on my work bench completely dis-assembled in about 15
different pieces...I AM A+ certified, and an electrical apprentice
(not to mention a drummer & sound engineer)...so I know my electronics...

Plus I will be taking PLENTY of PHOTOS to put on WWW.SIMMONSMUSEUM.COM
I think Wolfgang would like to have these SAD SAD photos on his
website...someone might benefit from this hanous crime!

If by "sound chips" you mean the EPROMs on the bottom front (left as you
look at the component side) on each voice board, then it will still work
on the analogue channel. Obviously the digital channel won't make a sound.

You could put pretty much any 2764 or 27128 eprom in to try it. I had
some good results using an old PC BIOS chip in one of mine. Very gritty
and Industrial. ;-)

Gordon.

I have a spare programmer panel complete with working dataknob for sale if you need it.

LJ - Who built one working SDS-7 from 2 damaged ones.

Please search the archives for this nice little swede telling his views on
drummers and how they aren't supposed to be allowed to even own delicate
electronic equipment. ;)

Those are easily replacable with something fun!

I once owned a single voice card and sold it quite expensive since there are
some neat CEMs on there...

Is there a list of all the EPROMs available? Even better, are there
copies of the samples available? Not sampled from the instrument, but a
straight dump of the EPROM?

Gordon.

Somewhere I've got a pile of .bin files for the simmons drum kit.
When I find it, I'll zip them up and let you know, if you're interested.

You'll need to find an Eprom programmer though.

That's not a problem. It would be great to have a copy of them. Is it
possible to read the samples from SDX disks?

There are a pile of Simmons EPROMs on eBay at the moment, that I have my
eye on. I'll let you know if I get them

Gordon.

Gordon,

I'll try and dig them out.

No idea I'm afraid.

Yeah, please do.
