What is MIDI? Dont make fun of me because I dont know, remember that this is my first Simmons kit and that I am a beginner with electronic drums and brains. I am not a beginner at drumming though.

Hi, MIDI is a standard communication between electonic instruments which allows you to trigg some other brains from your SDS9 one (in this case...) but also to trigg your SDS9 from a sequencer for example. So from your pads connected to a MIDI brain, you can record, trigg other sounds , communicate some settings etc... & also receive program changes & so on... If it's new to you, try to find a book which could introduce you all this world. It's quite pertubating at first, especially with the early MIDI machines like the SDS9...At that time, due to the new aspect & some economic aspects as well, something were possible via MIDI, & some not, it's not necessary logical at first from what you can expect... Anyway, I can't tell you much more about it, you need to experiment... Definitely find a manual if you haven't got any, you'll find some examples ! Remember, SIMMONS stays some awesome machines with great aspects but also with big misteries in it !!!These machines are really "esoteric"... That's all their charm I suppose but it's not the easier way to understand MIDI ! So welcome to the Headache world !!! Go & surf on GOOGLE to find some informations about all this... Just remember that all machines of 70's & early 80's are not necessary MIDI & can't communicate with some others by this way. A lot of SIMMONS models are not MIDI, except the more recent ones. But here again that's another story ! CU.
