The SDS1000 is essentially an SDS9 in a rack, and it uses serial EEPROM for
patch storage - so no battery there. I'll check the SDS9 schematics when I
have time to confirm it's the same, but it won't be this week...

All SDS9s I ever opened had batteries (I wish they didn't...). They are located on the solder side of the big board and cause shortcuts on the workbench, if you forget to put a newspaper under it. Voltage is 3.6V, replace it with NiCad, not Mh.
